Stitch Fix #3: Was the Third Time the Charm?

In March, I received my first Stitch Fix. I loved the idea of "Glam Delivered Right to Your Door." I only purchased one top from that Fix, but I was hooked!

In April, I received Stitch Fix #2 and it was terrific. I got three great items, including these fabulous Margaret M Emer black cropped pants that hide every flaw and make me look thinner than I really am. I wear them constantly. So I had high hopes for Stitch Fix #3, arriving a few days before my birthday in May. I was hoping this would be the Fix where everything was amazing and I bought it ALL.

Honestly, I was a little underwhelmed with the selections this month. At first, I wasn't sure I was going to keep anything. So I gave myself a day, tried on everything again, really thought about it, and ultimately decided to keep two pieces. And I'm really happy with my choices, although I'm hoping for something more "wow" next time.

What I Received

This month's Fix was styled by Danya. She definitely looked at the feedback from my last Fix, since she selected some more blue pieces and a short version of the white jeans from my last Fix and both the tops covered my upper arms nicely, since I'd pointed out I don't like sleeveless in my last Fix. She also noted how one of the tops would go nicely with the Margaret M pants from the last Fix, which was great.

First Item: 41Hawthorn Beatrice Dolman Sleeve Back Zipper Top, $58

My first thought was, "Oh, more blue." Don't get me wrong-I do love blue and navy, but I like other colors too! While this top is more turquoise, I'd love to see some other colors for variety in future Fixes.

My second thought was "Dolman sleeves never seem flattering on me." So I didn't have high hopes before I tried it on. However, once I put it on, I was intrigued. It is a great color, the material seems to fall nicely, it gathers at the waist in a way that might sort of camouflage the problematic mommy pooch, and I didn't hate the sleeves as I anticipated I might. The more I looked at it, the more I liked it. Plus, I have a tendency to buy a variety of t-shirts and just accessorize them to make them seem dressier, and I really need some great, non-t-shirt tops to wear to work and elsewhere. KEEPING.

These are my beloved Margaret M Emer cropped pants that you will have to wrest
from my cold dead hands. Praying Stitch Fix will send me them in some more colors.

Second Item: 41Hawthorn Moni Stud Detailed 3/4 Sleeve Blouse, $58

Not a blue item! I love this purple/fuchsia color and the shirt has a very fitted and flattering style. The only thing I wasn't sure about were the gold studs. I don't wear a lot of gold, so they were just kind of meh for me at first. But the more I looked at the shirt ON, the more I liked it. And I do have some jewelry in a similar gold tone that has stones this exact fuchsia color, so that works out nicely. And I need more non-t-shirt tops. KEEPING.

Third Item: 41Hawthorn Callafia Short-Sleeve Wrap Dress, $68

More blue. The color was lovely, but the dress was not. Sleeves were short. Tied multiple times around the waist. I DON'T TIE ANYTHING AROUND MY WAIST. I WANT PEOPLE TO LOOK ANYWHERE BUT MY WAIST. Too much material for lower half of dress, all bunched up and making me look larger on bottom-no, thanks. And finally, the dress was that just-below-the-knee length, which I personally think is the most unflattering length of all time. Give me a simple streamlined dress with no ties that hits just above the knee any day of the week. This? No. No. No. GOING BACK.

My fashion philosophy is distract everyone from my midsection by
focusing on my long legs. This dress does me no favors on both fronts.

If I'm going to wear a blue dress, I prefer something more like this:

Simple, three-quarter sleeve, just above the knee.

Fourth Item: Kut From the Kloth Mona Boyfriend Short, $68

These shorts are basically the white jeans from my last Fix in short form. Sounds good, right? Um, no. I love long denim jeans. I do not love denim shorts, in any color, but especially white. And when I do wear shorts, they are a little shorter and do not hug my midthigh and make it look like a sausage. Any shorts I wear are completely loose around the leg, so as to make my thigh look smaller coming out of the leg. And I think these were giving me a camel toe. Not good, people. GOING BACK.

Not great from the front, terribly unflattering from the back.
I could start working out, but I'd rather just dress my body differently LOL.

Fifth Item: Pixley Myah Crystal Palm Earrings, $38

I got a necklace in my first Stitch Fix. I didn't love it and I thought I indicated I didn't want to receive any more jewelry in future Fixes, because I'm really in this for the clothes. I already have a lot of jewelry.

I didn't dislike these earrings really, I just didn't love them. Plus, I already have some nicer jewelry in this same mint-green color. Hoping for all clothes in my next Fix. GOING BACK.

My Thoughts Overall

While I was initially underwhelmed, I'm really pleased with the two tops I decided to keep. With my $20 styling fee already applied, they cost me $102, which is probably what I would pay for two nice tops at Macy's. But I didn't have to go to Macy's! The convenience factor in Stitch Fix is the best. I look forward to getting the boxes, trying things on in my own mirror and lighting, and pairing the items with other stuff I already own.

I tried to give very specific, directive feedback about the items in this Fix, as well as other things I am looking for (MORE MARGARET M CROPPED PANTS, AHEM), so I'm excited to see what arrives in my next Fix on June 11th.

Also, I followed the suggestions on the style card and paired the fuchsia Moni Stud Detailed blouse with my favorite jeans and brown Franco Sarto boots (that have gold detailing, natch) for work today.

Disclaimer: If you use my Stitch Fix referral link to sign yourself up for Stitch Fix, I will receive a $25 credit toward my next Fix. (So please sign up OK? More clothes for me! LOL.) However, all the opinions here are my own and I am not being reimbursed in any way to review Stitch Fix. I'm doing this for fun and paying for everything out of my own pocket.

  1. I think the two tops you kept look great. Plus, had you gone to Macy's, you likely wouldn't have pulled the fuschia top off the rack, because the studs would've been a turnoff. That's what I love about Stitch Fix - it gets you to try on clothes you wouldn't otherwise consider. I also agree on the three items you sent back. (BTW, you have to go into your profile to request no accessories, not just in writing when you provide checkout feedback.)

I just got word my next fix arrives next week. And ... that same dress is included. I don't have high hopes - I already poo-poo'd a maxi dress that gathered at the midsection ... so, I'm not sure why they'd send me another dress that gathers in the midsection ... but, whatever, I'll try it on and see what happens.
